CDR Maguire has completed final design on a PA 356 corridor safety improvement project for PennDOT District 12-0 to rectify primary deficiencies of intersection sight distances within the project limits.
The project limits consist of a 3.5-mile section along SR 0356, classified as a Rural Community Arterial, in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, PA. Improvements in the corridor include:
- Horizontal and vertical geometry revisions including roadway offline realignment
- 5 intersections with the addition of auxiliary lanes
- 4 culvert replacements
- Shoulder upgrades
- Drainage and stormwater upgrades
This project also included evaluation and acquisition of right-of-way/easement impacts to 92 parcels and 3.5 miles of overhead utility impacts or relocations.
CDR|M’s proposed roadway design meets required design criteria for the appropriate highway classification based on full design roadway criteria for intersection improvements and Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation (3R) Projects roadway design criteria for connecting roadway segments within the corridor.
Our design incorporates several, low-cost safety improvements for the corridor, such as:
- Updated guiderail
- Additional signage and pavement markings
- Lighted advance-warning signage
- High-friction asphalt
The project has an estimated construction cost of $16M.
